May 12, 2020 (Tuesday)

Thank you to our guests!
  • Steve Miner, Assessment Commissioner for the City of Milwaukee
  • John Tsoris, Senior Property Appraiser
Steve provided good information about the assessment and appeals process:
  • There has been strong market demand in certain parts of the city. Bay View has seen one of the highest increases for example.
  • Why is this being done now? In 2002 there was an ordinance passed to require annual assessments.
  • State statutes define the timeline for appeals and there is a special timeline that applies to Milwaukee.
  • Go to the appeals website and click the “Ask the Assessor” link to get the process started.
  • Milwaukee is broken into 140 residential neighborhoods. Location is the primary factor in the valuation.
  • Overall the city has seen increases of 6% – 20%. The residential average is 12% (1-3 family buildings) and apartments averaged a 6% increase (4+ family).

The majority of the loans went to small businesses. 43,000+ loans done in WI (top 10 for distribution of loan funds) which amounted to $8.3 billion in funds.
  • A number of new lenders were added to this program, including those who had lapsed over the years.

Tammie also went through a slide show of the most important points of the PPP and EIDL programs. Download Tammie’s slide show here!
